It has been around 8 months since i started to learn CG with main focus on 3D. I have started with Vue then later Cinema4D and, in meanwhile, doing some digital painting and basically Photoshop and so far it is going very good. But...since i have started to learn Cinema4D around 2-3 months ago i'm constantly having traces of doubts whether I'm going in the right direction with all this.
The source of those doubts is in software selection and learning path as well as my future. Why i'm having doubts about software? Well, knowledge of working in Vue and Cinema4D might be good and handy from time to time but with just those two guys i will probably never get the job in movie or game industry and maybe somewhere in architectural viz...

Recently i've been spending time reading a lot of articles around internet/magazines and even exchanging few emails with some of great artists such as Andree Wallin ( andreewallin.com/portfolio ) and  Francesco Corvino ( www.francescocorvino.com ) to figure out what step should i take next now that i have learned few things.

For as long as i can remember it was always about digital matte painting! Later when i learned a bit about CG world beside matte painting there is also concept/environment design, compositing...etc; but what i did so far is that majority of time i spent on learning 3D and not so much 2D (digital painting, matte painting...) or at least not as much as i intended to. Although nowadays apparently more and more of 3D is involved in matte painting workflow, digital painting (fundamentals) are still very very important and that will not change for a long time i think.

That is why i came to a conclusion that i have to change my focus by spending majority of time on 2D instead of 3D. And since i am aiming on movie industry and to get the job in some major studio or/and freelancing i have to use what industry standard is. So instead of Cinema4D i have started to learn Maya which will be as main 3D software from now on. It is really hard to leave Cinema4D but as i was learning my way around it i always felt at the end of the day like i'm am, as i already said, going in wrong direction here.

Beside software and future career i am also thinking about attending some courses, online maybe but most definitely in-class. I was considering maybe Gnomon School since there i have seen some pretty cool 10 week courses so it would be nice to go there, get some experience, feel the life there and make some connections. So far it Gnomon but will see what other options are available around the world.

So..a lot of new things from now on and a lot of work to catch up. Even if i am changing focus now it does not mean that i'm am starting
from zero here so..i learned a lot but a lot is still there to learn!

P.S ...if anyone is who is reading this have any experience with Gnomon School or some other similar school i would love to here your opinions.
Write it down in comments, i would appreciate it lot!

Thanks! ..and if you read all this...i love you! :)

Hello

4 min read
Long story short,
I'm still an amateur in CGI and I made this deviantArt profile on which i will post my work as i progress, learn software and basically improve my skills over time so that one day I, hopefully, could work in movie or game industry as professional occupation.

Bellow is description of specific gallery, so, to understand why i did what i did be sure to read it.

Vue gallery:
Software: Vue xStream 10, Photoshop

This is my first 3D software i chose to learn and it's my first 3D software i have ever worked in. I always loved to imagine worlds and scenes that doesn't exist and with Vue i got the chance to actually make those worlds "real".
Vue is awesome piece of software and i love it from the start. It's quite easy to learn, it's very intuitive so you can really quick do something without someone showing you how to do it.

This "Vue gallery" is where i will post my work made with Vue xStream. I will post all my renders (well, not really all of them...) from the very beginning when i first started Vue.
The purpose of this for me and all of you who are interested is to follow my own progress as i learn to work in Vue. Bellow every post will be short description of what i did, learn or tried on that specific scene. In a way this gallery is also something like tutorial.

Matte Painting (gallery):
Software used: Photoshop (for now)

There is only two of my works in this gallery (bad ones, if i may add..heh) and the only thing about making those was to evaluate my current state of matte painting skills, which are currently equal to zero since i am total beginner in this...lovely.  I learned a lot how to use Photoshop while doing some graphic design but more is required so i decided to test myself.

- Without watching any matte painting tutorial, nothing about about perspective, lightning, composition, color...NOTHING...I just sat down and made something to see what will come out of it.

When i will start to post stuff? Well, hopefully soon. I learn a lot since i made those two works and for now i applied it only when making Vue 3D stuff. The key element is that i need learn how to draw anatomy, environments... I have started but long road is ahead of me so...does anyone even read this? :)

CINEMA 4D gallery:
+ VRAYforC4D

It is self explanatory pretty much, this is the gallery where i will post my C4D works. I have done my first steps into this cool piece of software and i started to post my first stuff that i did in it. Just like Vue gallery this one will also contain all my work, decent work - more or less, from the point where i just started to learn my way around C4D interface to...well...we'll see. :)
Idea is to learn how to make great looking models like architectural stuff, vehicles, aircrafts, etc...whatever i need and incorporate it seamlessly into the matte painting.
This, kind of, has sent of Nuke - the part with integration 3d model in matte painting...but Nuke is way over the line for now.

That's all for now. I will update this when i remember what more i wanted to write.
Cheers ;)
